Synopsis
SONS OF ALABAMA is a gripping Civil War saga that tells the story of Harrison, a conflicted soldier battling in a war he does not believe in, yet determined to survive and return to his beloved wife, Nancy. In 1862, the conflict tears apart the quiet community of Big Creek in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Facing the inevitability of conscription, Harrison enlists alongside his best friend, Green Smith, and feels compelled to bring his innocent brother, Daniel, into the fray. Harrison's promises to protect his family and to see them safely home, have become both his greatest strength his heaviest burden as the war tests the limits of his integrity. Each battle from Stones River to Appomattox extracts a heavy toll in blood and innocence, forcing him to fight for a cause he cannot endorse. Meanwhile, back home Nancy and their family struggle to survive as Harrison and several other brothers leave to fight. As the Union army encroaches on Big Creek, Harrison is left wondering if he can keep his vows intact or if the war will leave nothing for him to return to once it's over.

Sydney Lee
Author
Sydney Lee grew up in New England, but his heart belongs to Alabama. After learning as a child that his ancestors fought in the Civil War, he spent years uncovering their stories—eventually discovering that four of his great-grandfathers enlisted from Big Creek (now Coker), a small town in Tuscaloosa County. What fascinated him wasn't the cause they fought for which he has strongly opposed, but their determination to survive and protect those they loved through unimaginable hardship. Their journey from that quiet corner of the South through some of the war's bloodiest battles became the foundation for SONS OF ALABAMA. After years of research and writing, he brings their world to life in his debut novel. He lives in Rhode Island with his wife and is the father of two daughters.
